Releasing the Chains of Guilt: Let Go Of This Disempowering Emotion
Guilt is an interesting emotion. It tends to stay with us, in part because we get attached to the idea that it will protect us from punishment for whatever happened – whatever it is that we feel guilty about.
So, for example, if you feel guilty about missing a close friend’s birthday, on some level you might think the guilt you feel will protect you from any anger that friend may feel toward you for missing their special day.
Unfortunately, even if that friend doesn’t get mad at you, the guilt you feel is its own form of punishment. So in the end, guilt doesn’t protect you at all.
We may also hold onto guilt thinking that the guilt will prevent us from repeating the same mistake. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work, either. Think about it – have you ever felt guilt about eating too much pie at Thanksgiving? Has that guilt prevented you from repeating that same behavior the next year or even the next time you have dessert? No, it probably hasn’t.
Even though we feel guilt afterward, we repeat that behavior over and over again.
So guilt really isn’t serving us. It’s not protecting us from being punished or preventing us from repeating the same behavior. What it does do is keep us stuck in the past, which means we can’t move our lives and relationships forward in a more positive way.
In this meditation, we’re going to begin releasing that guilt so you can break free from patterns that are no longer serving you.
Your Powerful Voice: Letting Go of Stage Fright and Public Speaking Fears
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 75% of Americans feel anxiety around public speaking. That’s a LOT of people, and it’s a fear that spans the globe. In fact, fear of public speaking is the #1 phobia, so know, first of all, that you’re definitely not alone. Nearly everyone, including people like me who have been speaking on stage for years, experience at least some stage fright.
It’s normal, but none of us enjoy feeling that fear and anxiety. It can also interfere with performance, which is why, in this tapping meditation, you’ll be releasing those emotions so you can get up there, be yourself, and enjoy the experience.
Freedom in The Sky: Overcome The Fear of Flying
When I travel these days, I often see people tapping on planes. There are good reasons for that. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that more than 20 million Americans suffer from a fear of flying, so know that you’re not alone. Second, tapping is an incredibly powerful way to overcome that fear, which is why I see so many more people using it on flights these days.
Resentment Eliminator: Let Go of Old Grudges, Irritations and Hurts
At some point, we all experience feelings of resentment, whether at a significant other, family member, friend, boss, or other. You may resent someone you feel has taken advantage of you, brushed you aside, failed to express appreciation for you… or maybe you resent someone who asked you to give more than you wanted without giving much back in return.
There are lots of reasons for feeling resentful, and at the core of those issues is an absence of healthy boundaries. When we’re able to say no and create boundaries that support our wellbeing, we can more successfully avoid the situations that cause us to feel resentful. With healthy boundaries in place, our relationships are also healthier.
In this tapping meditation, we’re going to begin by releasing resentment, and then use tapping to support you in setting healthier boundaries that prevent you from feeling resentful in the future.
Quieting the "I'm Not Enough" Voice
In this tapping meditation we will be tapping to overcome that voice in your head that most of us face at some point. The voice that tells you, ‘You are not enough.’ You may hear that voice when you try something new or put yourself out there when you are work or in a relationship. That voice can also get louder when something traumatic or upsetting happens, whether it is a job loss, a divorce, or something else.
Many of us have had that voice in us since childhood and even if we know it’s not true, it can be hard to quiet that voice that has been inside you from a young age. Whatever the case is for you, we are going to use tapping to begin to quiet that voice.
Activating Your Creativity
In this tapping meditation we will be tapping to get connected to your creativity.
Creativity often gets linked to the arts and activities like writing, but it is something we are all capable of. Almost as a rule, creativity flows best when we are relaxed and open to receiving new ideas and new ways of doing things. So that is what we will be doing in this tapping meditation, getting rid of those things like stress and anxiety that can block creativity. Once they are gone, creativity can flow more naturally.
Improving Your Communication in Your Intimate Relationships
In this tapping meditation we will be releasing internal blocks to improved communication in a relationship.
Even when we want to improve communication in a relationship, and this could be your relationship with your spouse, your mom, your child, a friend, or a neighbor. Sometimes we experience internal resistance. There are a lot of different reasons why we may resist the idea of opening up to someone in a relationship. There may have been a breach of trust at some point or we may have experienced negative reactions in the past that made us feel like being open and vulnerable is unsafe. We may have also been taught that expressing emotion, which is a necessary part of improved communication in relationships is unacceptable or inappropriate in some way. Whatever the case, in order to improve communication in that relationship we first need to address our own internal blocks to being more open with that particular person.
