Beyond Allergy Meds: How Tapping Provides Natural Relief from Seasonal and Sinus Issues

Posted on March 12, 2025April 8, 2025 by admin

I recently received this wonderful testimonial from Joyce that I wanted to share with you:

“Tapping has been a blessing!! I started tapping before the app was out! I read the books and I learned the scripts. It took 3 weeks by doing tapping everyday for allergies & Sinus issues. I was on allergy meds for 15 years and after tapping I no longer need to take medicine for that. It also relaxes me.”

Joyce, thank you for sharing your incredible success story! After 15 years of dependence on allergy medications, finding freedom through Tapping in just three weeks is truly remarkable. Your dedication to learning the scripts and practicing every day clearly paid off in a profound way.

What’s particularly impressive about your experience is how it highlights something I’ve seen countless times: our bodies have a natural ability to heal and rebalance when we give them the right tools. Tapping doesn’t just mask symptoms—it helps address the underlying patterns that keep our bodies stuck in cycles of reactivity.

Let’s explore why Tapping can be so effective for allergies and sinus issues, and how others might benefit from your experience!

The Hidden Connection: Allergies, Sinuses, and Your Nervous System

Most of us think of allergies as purely physical reactions—our immune system overreacting to harmless substances like pollen, dust, or animal dander. While that’s technically true, there’s a critical piece of the puzzle that conventional treatments often miss: the role of the nervous system in allergic responses.

This isn’t something you’ll hear from most allergists, but when your body experiences an allergic reaction, it’s not just your immune system that’s involved—it’s your entire nervous system jumping into protection mode.

“Your nervous system can actually ‘learn’ to be hypersensitive to these triggers over time.”

Why Your Body Overreacts: The Nervous System Connection

Think about what happens during an allergy attack: your body perceives something ordinary (like pollen) as a dangerous threat. This kicks your nervous system into high alert, triggering inflammation, excess mucus production, and all those miserable symptoms we associate with allergies.

But here’s the fascinating part—your nervous system can actually “learn” to be hypersensitive to these triggers over time. In fact, research has shown that chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation can make allergies significantly worse and more persistent.

This is why conventional allergy medications, while helpful for managing symptoms, often don’t resolve the underlying pattern. They address the immune response but not the nervous system pattern that keeps it hypersensitive and overreactive.

This is precisely where Tapping enters the picture.

How Tapping Retrains Your Body’s Response

When you tap on acupressure points while focusing on your allergy symptoms, you’re essentially sending calming signals directly to your amygdala—the brain’s alarm center. This helps to:

  1. Break the stress-allergy cycle: Tapping helps regulate your nervous system, lowering the stress hormones that can amplify allergic responses.
  2. Retrain your brain’s threat detection: Over time, Tapping helps recalibrate your brain’s perception of allergens, helping it recognize that pollen, dust, or pet dander aren’t actually dangerous threats.
  3. Reduce inflammatory responses: Studies have shown that Tapping can help lower inflammatory markers in the body, which play a major role in allergic reactions.
  4. Process emotional components: Sometimes, allergies have emotional triggers or patterns associated with them that Tapping helps to process and release.

Joyce’s experience—being able to stop medications after 15 years—suggests that Tapping helped her body establish a new, healthier pattern of response. Rather than just suppressing symptoms like medications do, Tapping appears to have helped her nervous system update its programming around allergens.

The Three-Week Transformation: Why Consistency Matters

I was struck by Joyce mentioning that it took her three weeks of daily Tapping to see results. This timeline actually aligns with what we know about neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to form new neural connections and patterns.

Creating new neural pathways typically requires consistent repetition over time. Think of it like carving a new path through a dense forest—the more often you walk that path, the more established it becomes. Joyce’s daily practice for three weeks gave her brain enough time to establish this new pattern of response to allergens.

“While Tapping can sometimes create immediate relief, physical conditions like allergies often require consistent practice to see lasting change.”

This is an important takeaway: while Tapping can sometimes create immediate relief (especially for emotional issues), physical conditions like allergies often require consistent practice to see lasting change. Joyce’s commitment to daily Tapping for three weeks was likely a key factor in her success.

A Tapping Sequence for Allergy and Sinus Relief

If you’re inspired by Joyce’s story and want to try Tapping for your own allergies or sinus issues, here’s a comprehensive sequence you can use. Consider this a starting point—you can personalize it to reflect your specific symptoms and triggers.

Step 1: Acknowledge Your Current Symptoms

Tapping on the side of the hand:
“Even though I’m struggling with these allergy symptoms right now, I deeply and completely accept myself and my body’s responses.”
“Even though my sinuses are inflamed and uncomfortable, I accept where I am right now and I’m open to the possibility of relief.”
“Even though I’ve been dealing with these allergies for so long, I honor my body and am ready to help it find a new balance.”

Eyebrow: “These uncomfortable allergy symptoms”
Side of the eye: “All this sinus pressure”
Under the eye: “The congestion and discomfort”
Under the nose: “My body’s overreaction to allergens”
Under the mouth: “All this inflammation”
Collarbone: “These frustrating symptoms”
Under the arm: “My body’s current response to allergens”
Top of the head: “Acknowledging how I feel right now”

Step 2: Address the Nervous System Response

Tapping on the side of the hand:
“Even though my nervous system is stuck in this pattern of overreacting to harmless substances, I deeply and completely accept myself and my body’s capacity to learn a new response.”

Eyebrow: “My nervous system is on high alert”
Side of the eye: “It thinks these allergens are dangerous”
Under the eye: “But they’re actually harmless”
Under the nose: “My body can learn this new information”
Under the mouth: “I can help my system calm down”
Collarbone: “Sending signals of safety to my nervous system”
Under the arm: “Teaching my body a new response”
Top of the head: “My nervous system can learn and adapt”

Step 3: Release Emotional Components

Tapping on the side of the hand:
“Even though there might be emotional patterns connected to these allergies, I deeply and completely accept myself and all my feelings.”

Eyebrow: “Any frustration about these allergies”
Side of the eye: “Any fear about not being able to breathe freely”
Under the eye: “Any stress that might be amplifying my symptoms”
Under the nose: “Any hidden emotions my body might be expressing”
Under the mouth: “It’s safe to acknowledge these feelings”
Collarbone: “Releasing any emotional patterns connected to my allergies”
Under the arm: “Processing any trapped emotions in my sinuses”
Top of the head: “Letting these emotions flow and release”

Step 4: Invite Healing and Balance

Tapping on the side of the hand:
“Even though I’ve had these allergy patterns for a long time, I’m open to my body finding a new balance and a healthier response to my environment.”

Eyebrow: “My body knows how to heal”
Side of the eye: “My immune system can learn appropriate responses”
Under the eye: “I can breathe clearly and easily”
Under the nose: “My sinuses can drain and function normally”
Under the mouth: “My body can recognize these substances as harmless”
Collarbone: “Inviting my nervous system to calm down”
Under the arm: “Creating new, healthier patterns in my body”
Top of the head: “I’m open to complete healing and balance”

Beyond the Basic Sequence: Targeting Specific Allergy Patterns

While the sequence above addresses allergies generally, you might find it helpful to target more specific aspects of your experience. Here are some additional approaches to consider:

For Seasonal Allergies (Pollen, etc.)

Try tapping while saying: “Even though spring (or fall) always triggers my allergies, and my body expects to react to pollen, I’m teaching my system that these seasons can be comfortable and safe.”

For Pet Allergies

Try tapping while saying: “Even though my body reacts to my pet (or other people’s pets), I’m training my nervous system to recognize that these animals are safe for me to be around.”

For Food Sensitivities

Try tapping while saying: “Even though my body has been reacting to certain foods, I’m helping my digestive and immune systems recognize which foods truly serve me and which don’t.”

For Chemical Sensitivities

Try tapping while saying: “Even though I react strongly to certain smells or chemicals, I’m helping my nervous system regulate its response to these substances.”

“Instead of suppressing your immune system, you’re helping it function more appropriately—distinguishing between genuine threats and harmless environmental factors.”

Creating Your 21-Day Allergy Relief Plan

Inspired by Joyce’s three-week success story, here’s a structured approach you might try for your own allergy relief journey:

Week 1: Awareness and Initial Regulation

Daily practice: Spend 5-10 minutes each morning Tapping on your current symptoms and working to calm your nervous system’s immediate response.

Focus: Noticing the patterns of your allergic responses. When do they worsen? What triggers them? How does stress affect them?

Additional support: Consider keeping an “allergy journal” to track symptoms and potential correlations with stress, foods, or environmental factors.

Week 2: Deeper Processing

Daily practice: Continue your morning Tapping routine, but add a second session in the evening focusing more on any emotional patterns you’ve noticed.

Focus: Exploring any connections between your emotions and your allergy symptoms. Does anxiety make them worse? Do certain situations coincide with flare-ups?

Additional support: Add a brief Tapping session any time symptoms flare during the day—even 60 seconds can help interrupt the pattern.

Week 3: Reinforcing New Patterns

Daily practice: Maintain your twice-daily tapping routine, but now include more positive, future-focused statements about how you want your body to respond.

Focus: Visualizing and embodying what it feels like to be allergy-free, helping your nervous system “rehearse” this new, healthier pattern.

Additional support: Begin Tapping preventively before entering situations that typically trigger allergies (like before going outdoors during high pollen days).

The “Nervous System Retraining” Approach to Allergies

What Joyce’s experience points to is what I call the “Nervous System Retraining” approach to allergies. Rather than just treating symptoms as they arise, this approach focuses on retraining your body’s fundamental response patterns through consistent practice.

This retraining involves:

  1. Breaking the conditioned association between allergens and danger signals in your brain
  2. Calming the inflammatory cascade that follows an allergic trigger
  3. Processing any emotional components that might be amplifying your body’s reactions
  4. Creating new neural pathways for appropriate, measured responses to environmental triggers

The beauty of this approach is that it works with your body’s natural healing capabilities rather than against them. Instead of suppressing your immune system (as many medications do), you’re helping it function more appropriately—distinguishing between genuine threats and harmless environmental factors.

Beyond Allergies: The Relaxation Bonus

I love that Joyce mentioned how Tapping “also relaxes me.” This points to another significant benefit of regular Tapping practice—it helps regulate your nervous system overall, not just in relation to specific allergies.

This general regulation effect helps:

  • Improve sleep quality
  • Reduce everyday stress
  • Increase resilience to challenges
  • Support immune function
  • Enhance overall well-being

In many ways, the relaxation Joyce experiences may be both a result of her allergy relief and a contributor to it—creating a positive feedback loop of improved health.

“By addressing the patterns underlying her allergies, rather than just suppressing the symptoms, she found a path to genuine healing.”

The Body-Mind Breakthrough: Why This Matters

Joyce’s story represents something much bigger than just allergy relief. It demonstrates how our bodies aren’t separate from our emotions and nervous system patterns—they’re intricately connected.

This perspective stands in stark contrast to the conventional medical approach that treats the body as a collection of separate systems. When we understand that allergies aren’t just an immune system issue but involve our nervous system, stress responses, and even emotional patterns, we open up entirely new avenues for healing.

And that’s exactly what Joyce experienced—a breakthrough that conventional medicine had missed for 15 years. By addressing the patterns underlying her allergies, rather than just suppressing the symptoms, she found a path to genuine healing.
